If you’re good at something, never do it for free. Those are some wise and powerful words coming out of an insane character like the Joker really is, and make sure to remember them when reading this article.
You’ll need it.
In this article I will try and explain how you can watch US Netflix outside the States. The process is fairly simple and effective, and you will get access to everything Netflix has to offer. However, a certain amount of dollars will have to be spent, if you are serious about it and want the best possible solution.
I’m betting good money that at least once in your life you got the message “Sorry, Netflix is not available in your country“, while you tried to tap into the latest How I Met Your Mother episode, or the NBA All-Star Show. So did I. The annoying message is there thanks to licencing deals which forbid people outside the US to watch their content.
Maybe you’re not a US resident, and maybe you’re just on vacation, but be it as it may – Netflix must be watched!
The trick is to fool Netflix and have it think you’re in the States, when you’re actually not. You can do this in two ways, either by a browser add-on, which is free but not so good, or via a VPN network, which costs some cash, but is of better quality.
You can try and install browser extensions like Hola or ProxMate. They are proxy VPNs, free to use and very simple, but being free also means they’re being overused. Too many people using these add-ons means you might get lags and dropped connections.
The VPN Solution
If you’re really serious about watching Netflix Canada or US Netflix while away from the continent, you might want to invest in a VPN.
There are a couple of major benefits a paid VPN service brings. First and foremost, you get a dedicated VPN which will always work on any US-exclusive website. Your connection will be more secure wherever you use it, even if you’re on a public Wi-Fi network, in a library or a park.
VPN services also offer great speeds, so you can be sure there will be no (or minimum) buffering times.
Another advantage of VPN is that it’s extremely easy to set up and maintain. All you need to do is download and install it, and after that most VPN’s will offer you a one-click option to choose your server.
After that, off you go, to the magical world of unobstructed Netflix!
There is, however, one legal matter you should think of. Like any other movie streaming service, Netflix has its own Terms of Use, and under those terms, anyone outside of the States is not allowed to watch their program.
If you’re a Netflix subscriber, that means you’ve agreed to its Terms and Conditions, and violating those could get you banned. What ever you plan on doing, you’re doing it at your own risk.
