Natural Treatments For Vitiligo

Vitiligo is a skin condition that is characterized by the loss of the pigment melanin from the surface of the skin in blotches. This is known to affect any part of the body, including the face, limbs, mouth and even in rare cases, the eyes.

The presence of melanin is extremely important in the skin. It is this pigment that defines the color of the skin in human beings. If you have noticed, the skins of people differ from being pinkish white, white, fair, brown, wheatish brown, black and dark black. All this is due to the presence of the melanin pigment which is needed to produce the color for one’s skin. An acute issue where this pigment content becomes lesser than what is required to the body leads to condition that is known as Vitiligo.

Foods to Avoid in Vitiligo

General recommendations including drinking a lot of water to stay hydrated and keep skin healthy as well. Avoiding tea and red chillies is advocated.  Cherries, blackberries and raspberries are best dropped from the diet as well along with milk products like yogurt and butter milk.  Reducing the intake of red meat and beef and fish, avoiding oily and spicy foods, sodas, chocolate and junk food is recommended.

Many people notice that their body is able to absorb sunlight better which is necessary to help in the re-pigmentation process.  People with vitiligo should make sure to get enough sun to make vitamin D and strong bones but avoid getting sun burnt.  Skin without pigmentation tends to be very sensitive and people do get sun burnt and rashes quite easily.  One should make sure to get adequate amounts of DHA and Vitamin B 12.  Vitamin D supplements have to be taken if one cannot go outside for sunlight.  People who have the tendency of getting stressed out should pay attention to their emotional state and avoid such situations. Meditation, exercise and good sleep are also part of the program.
