From the ice rink to the Christmas market and the festive lighting, here is everything you need to know.

Market opening dates and times

Following the success of the previous year, the market will be open until 24 December, offering shoppers a truly festive experience right up to Christmas Eve. It will open from Thursday 16 November, with the lights switched on by the mayor. This will allow plenty of time to get down there and start shopping. The opening hours are 10 am to 9 pm every day.

What to expect

The market will be from the twinned city of Frankfurt. Millions of visitors are expected to arrive during the season to explore one of the most famous UK Christmas German markets. As it is the largest outside Germany and Austria, there will be lots to explore. It will be centered around Victoria Square and New Street. The weekends are anticipated to be the busiest time, and after 5 pm during the week as shoppers and workers stop for food.

What is on offer

There are plenty of things to eat and drink. Choose from the fantastic range of German sausages, schnitzel and pretzels, and sweet treats such as strudel, crepes and Berliner doughnuts. Enjoy a beer, gluhwein or hot chocolate during your visit. There are traditional gifts available, including decorations, jewelry, and a range of toys. Enjoy the live music during your visit and soak up the atmosphere.

Where to stay

If you are lucky enough to live in the centre of Birmingham, you will be able to access the markets and other retailers with ease; otherwise, booking in to one of the serviced apartments in Birmingham, such as No.8 Waterloo Street apartments, will ensure a stress-free run up to the festive season and more time for shopping, eating and drinking at one of the many places on offer at Christmas.

The market has been running for over 15 years and is expected to be bigger and better than ever this year. Come and experience a German Christmas in Birmingham and pick up some fantastic unique gifts.
