Let us all as collective drivers take a few seconds and rejoice in the recent falling of fuel prices at the pump. For those now paying less than $2.00 a gallon, enjoy it while it lasts but be mindful of the future. As history has taught us before, prices can trend up for any number of reasons.

If you are currently shopping for your next people mover or your new fun gas sipper to get you to work, the import market is full of high MPG cars to suit your needs. Since low gas prices eventually rise, let’s take a look at the highest MPG imported vehicles in both hybrid and non-hybrid vehicles.

Top Fuel Efficient Import Cars

Hybrids

2014 BMW i3 –

The German automaker is showing the world that the luxury automaker can make a gas sipper that still has the heart of a BMW. The i3 sports a 170hp automatic transmission that gets an unreal 137 city/111 hwy MPG. If that is not enough to grab your attention, it also comes with an integrated navigation system, 19 in alloy wheels, and a myriad of other features.

2015 Fiat 500e –

Still relatively new to the American car buyer consciousness Fiat has a little two door firecracker that is fun to drive while boasting 122 city/108 hwy MPG. It is powered by a 111hp auto transmission that has enough pickup to get to highway speeds safely when jumping on the expressway and using minimal fuel to do so.

2014 Honda Fit –

A regular in the minds of fuel efficient car buyers across the brand with cars like the Accord and Civic, the Fit takes fuel efficient to the extreme at 132 city/105 hwy. It is powered by a 132hp auto transmission. What separates the Fit from other cars in this uber fuel efficient market is it having more than two doors and interior space that is comfortable for more than two adults.

Non-Hybrids

2015 Mitsubishi Mirage –

If you are looking for purely the highest fuel economy among the non-hybrids you turn to the Mirage, which has an EPA-rated 37 city and 44 hwy MPG. With a 1.2 liter 74hp engine, the Mirage is uninspiring and moves slowly  along but at a very high mpg that is unmatched in non-hybrids.

2015 Toyota Corolla –

A familiar face among the cost conservative at the pump for over a decade. The 2015 has an EPA 30/42 MPG that is powered by a 140hp 1.8 liter engine with variable valve timing and gearless CVT transmission. Owners will need to shell out a little more cash for the “Eco” version, somewhere between $400 and $700.

2015 MINI Cooper Hardtop –

For the gas sipper that still wants a sporty ride the MINI brings the best of both worlds. The Euro style can be felt inside and out with its stylish exterior and has the insides to back it up. A super fun handling 1.5 liter turbocharged engine carves up road while getting an EPA 30/42 MPG. If you want to cut corners on the road and costs at the pump, look no further.

2015 Mazda6 Grand Touring –

While it does not get to 30 mpg city like some other import compact sedan (it checks in at 28 MPG city) the Mazda6 offers an ultra-competitive 40 MPG highway. It is also the only mid-size sedan to crack Forbes list of top 15 fuel efficient non-hybrids. That is right, you can still get 40 MPG from a mid-size car without the premium hybrid price.

It does not sacrifice performance either to attain such lofty numbers with an athletic 2.5 liter 184hp engine. The Grand Touring also comes with a bunch of toys on the inside that add to the joy of driving this larger than normal gas sipper.
