Ways To Survive A Trekking In the Wild

During a trekking in the wild, we can’t rely on our guardian angels to get us out of troubles. In this situation, we can rely only to our backpack and preparation. With good techniques, we should be able to get ourselves out of trouble. Although it is not possible to travel light during trekking, we should still toss everything that we may not require. It is a bad idea to travel with an unnecessarily bring

1. First Aid Kit

First aid kit should be the first thing that we need to prepare. Small scratches can become infected in tropical areas and cause fever. Germs could easily enter our body through small openings. We should know how to stop the bleeding and apply bandages. Scratch doesn’t happen only because we travel in rough areas. Small, dry twigs on the bushes could also scratch our arms and neck. We should know how to treat sprained ankle and have enough painkiller to ease discomfort.

2. Prepare Navigation Gear

There are no signs in the wilderness, so we need good tools to maintain our sense of direction. One wrong turn may get us lost easily. That’s why it is recommended to hire a local guide who understands the place really well. It is very easy to get lost if we don’t travel without enough instructions. We should also carry a map and informative guidebook about the area. The map should be useful if we know how to combine it with the magnetic compass. With good navigation skill, it is possible for us to accurately find our ways in even the remotest places. If possible, we should bring a GPS device to accurately define our location.

3. Bring Enough Water And Food

Even fully equipped trekkers feel hunger and thirst more than a few times. We need enough energy and water to survive the endeavour and trekking can be a very exhausting adventure. Our backpack should be filled with fresh water and durable food. Whenever we get the chance, we should replenish our water supply and this means, we also need to bring necessary items to boil water we take from nearby streams.

4. Bring Communication Devices

Communication is an essential rule in any trekking trip. We should regularly report our position to the park rangers or our friends in the base camp. If we are totally lost, the search party will have an idea by starting to look from our last reported location. Often, we are in a remote area and don’t have the luxury to get rescued, it may be necessary to bring a waterproof satellite phone.

5. Proper Sleeping Bag/Tent

Good tent or sleeping bag could help us to get enough rest during the night. It is likely that we are far away from nearest human settlements at night and we need to make a camp before it gets dark.
